Debug Fresno

Join us Monday, August 6, at 7pm for our next edition of Cafe Sci!  We will be featuring Jodi Holeman and Steve Mulligan from the Consolidated Mosquito Abatement District.

In 2016, the Consolidated Mosquito Abatement District (CMAD) and MosquitoMate piloted the first-ever U.S. release of male Aedes aegypti mosquitoes with Wolbachia to evaluate this sterile insect technique (SIT) as a mosquito control strategy in Fresno County.

Verily joined the partnership in 2017 with the launch of Debug Fresno, an expansion of the 2016 program aimed at reducing the biting femaleAedes aegyptipopulations within large residential neighborhoods.

Today CMAD and its partners continue to develop the sterile insect technique using Wolbachiafor control of this invasive mosquito which impacts public health on a global level. Debug Fresno combines biology, engineering and automation in new workflows to bring SIT and technology to the front doorstep of Fresno County residents.

We’ll discuss what Debug Fresno is and what it takes to implement a large-scale field study in urban residential communities.
