Please join us Monday, September 9 (note: second Monday!) for a discussion of invasive species in the US, focused on California, led by Mark Halvorsen, Curator of Reptiles at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo.
Mark Halvorsen has been interested in reptiles and amphibians since he was a young man living in Brooklyn, New York. Through the support of parents tolerant of have many slimy and scaly animals kept in various rooms in the house, Mark developed a strong commitment to managing and conserving reptile and amphibians in both captive programs and natural habitat. His zoo career has taken him around the country from the Bogs of Northeast to the High Plains of Wyoming, where he worked with local researchers to evaluate local populations of reptile and amphibian species. Currently, he is working at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo managing a wide variety of species from Komodo Dragons and Cobras to Greater One Horned Rhinoceros and Babirusa. Mark continues his commitment to conserving wild species by closing managing the captive population of Western Pond Turtles in zoos throughout the US.
